If Missouri state income tax was withheld, employers must submit Form MO W-3 (Annual Reconciliation).

Form MO W-3 is the Annual Reconciliation used to report the total income taxes withheld from employees and remitted to the state.

The filing deadline for Missouri for Forms W-2 is January 31st. If this date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the next business day becomes the deadline.

Missouri imposes penalties for both late filing of W-2 forms and failure to pay taxes on time:

  • Late Filing Penalty: $2 per return, with a maximum penalty of $1,000.
  • Failure to Pay Withheld Taxes on Time: 10% penalty on unpaid taxes, plus 1% interest per month on the unpaid amount, calculated from the due date until payment.
  • Failure to Furnish Copies to Employees: $2 per return, with a maximum penalty of $1,000.

Employers submitting 25 or more W-2 forms are required to file electronically. Additionally, if you have paid taxes electronically during the year, W-2s must also be filed electronically.
